Ever Wonder Why “They” Get It All Done?

April 16, 20253 min read

Ever wonder why it seems like others effortlessly get things done, while you’re stuck on the crazy train—frantically trying to get off at the next stop? You’ve reorganized your schedule more times than you can count, and yet your to-do list just keeps growing with things you have to do.

What if there was a simple way to harness your brilliance and actually get things done—without the chaos?

If you attended our recent Lunch & Learn on time management, you probably have a good idea where this is going. And if not, check out the previous newsletter for helpful videos and visuals on prioritizing tasks. But here, we’re diving into something incredibly practical and powerful: time-blocking your Power Hour.

You might be thinking, “An hour? Who has a whole hour?!” I hear you. Time can be hard to come by—but here’s the thing: when you know exactly what needs to get done, that Power Hour becomes your most productive, focused, and dare I say—sacred—part of the day. Before long, it turns into a non-negotiable good habit.

Step 1: Know Your Power Zone

First, figure out when you're most energized. Are you:

  • A morning person who thrives at sunrise?

  • A midday momentum-builder?

  • A night owl who comes alive after dark?

There’s no wrong answer—the key is choosing intentionally. You get to decide how and when to use your time, and trust me, once you start, you’ll be saying:
“Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Step 2: Customize Your Hour

Next, decide whether you want to block the full hour at once or split it into focused chunks. Then, make two columns:

  • 🟢 Tasks you enjoy

  • 🔴 Tasks you’d rather avoid

Now alternate between the two—pair something enjoyable with something necessary. This approach keeps the momentum going and helps you tackle even the most dreaded items without burning out.

Example:

Examples of customizing your time

Start small. One day at a time. One Power Hour at a time.

You get the gist—now it's time to assign a time limit to each task. Remember, you’ve only got one hour. If a task runs over, you’ll need to take time away from another task. If it runs short, you can reallocate that extra time to something else that needs it. Stay flexible, but focused.
