Wappingers Historical Society

Wappingers Historical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of the Town of Wappinger, the Village of Wappingers Falls, and neighboring communities in the Hudson Valley.

Founded in 1967 by local resident John Ferris, the society was established to protect and share the area's historical heritage, which was at risk of being lost as older residents moved away and discarded artifacts.

Today, the society continues its mission through various initiatives, including the stewardship of the historic Mesier Homestead, a 1741 fieldstone house that served as a significant site during the American Revolution.

The homestead was home to Peter Mesier, a Tory merchant, and was central to the 1777 Wappingers Tea Party revolt. The society offers public tours, educational programs, and maintains extensive archives and collections, including Native American artifacts and local historical documents.

The Mesier Homestead is located at 2 Spring Street, Wappingers Falls, NY, and is open for tours on select Sundays and by appointment.
