Zion Episcopal Church is a historic and inclusive congregation located at 12 South Avenue in Wappingers Falls, New York. Established in 1820 by Joanna Mesier, the wife of Matthew Mesier, the church began as a Sunday School under an apple tree overlooking Wappingers Creek.
Officially organized in 1834, the parish has grown to become a cornerstone of the community, offering a welcoming space for worship, fellowship, and service.
The church building, consecrated in 1869, is a striking example of English Gothic architecture, featuring North River blue stone trim and intricate stained glass windows. Over the years, Zion has expanded its mission to include various ministries such as the Zion Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, Vacation Bible School, and a community garden.
The church also hosts annual events like the Christmas Bazaar and Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, fostering a strong sense of community and outreach.
Worship services are held every Sunday at 10:00 AM, both in-person and online via Facebook Live and YouTube. The congregation is led by a dedicated clergy and supported by various lay ministries, including the Daughters of the King and the Altar Guild.
Renovations to the Parish Hall are ongoing, reflecting the church's commitment to maintaining a vibrant and welcoming space for all.
